Seattle Mariners Name Jason Kanzler as New Manager for 2027 Season

The Seattle Mariners have announced Jason Kanzler as the team’s new field manager, marking a new chapter for the Seattle baseball organization ahead of the 2027 Major League Baseball season.

The announcement was made Tuesday, November 3, by Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto. Kanzler becomes the 22nd manager in franchise history.

Who Is Jason Kanzler?

Kanzler, 36, most recently served as Director of Player Development for the Chicago Cubs from 2024 through 2026, overseeing the organization’s minor league system, players, and coaching staff.

Before joining the Cubs, he spent five seasons with the Houston Astros organization from 2019 to 2023. He was part of the Astros’ coaching staff during their 2022 World Series championship season and served as an assistant hitting coach in 2023.

Kanzler previously played three minor league seasons as an outfielder in the Minnesota Twins organization after being selected in the 20th round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

His appointment marks his first managerial position at any level of professional baseball.

Replacing Dan Wilson

Kanzler takes over following the departure of former manager Dan Wilson. The Mariners finished the 2026 season with a 76-86 record and missed the playoffs.

The organization is now looking to build a new direction and return to postseason contention.

What the Mariners Are Saying

Jerry Dipoto said the organization was looking for a manager with the ability to challenge the team and help establish a championship standard in Seattle.

Kanzler said he is excited to join the Mariners and looks forward to helping the team reach its full potential.

His introductory press conference is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Seattle fans will now be watching closely to see how the new manager shapes the team ahead of the 2027 season.
