One Dead, Homeowner Injured After Morning House Fire in Everett
A residential fire in Everett claimed one life and sent another person to the hospital Monday morning after flames spread through a split-level home, according to the Everett Fire Department.
Fire crews were dispatched to the 7300 block of McDougall Avenue after neighbors reported smoke and flames coming from the lower level of the house. Witnesses also told emergency responders that someone might still be inside.
Firefighters encountered difficult conditions as they worked to search the home. During the operation, they found a man in his late 30s who had died inside the residence.
The homeowner, a woman in her early 60s, sustained minor burns and smoke inhalation. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to the fire department, the woman was upstairs when a functioning smoke alarm alerted her to the emergency. She tried to reach the man on the lower floor, but the fire had intensified and blocked her way.
South County Fire and the Mukilteo Fire Department assisted Everett crews at the scene.
The Everett Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. No additional details about what may have sparked the blaze were provided.
